Coach Profile
Head Coach
Andrew Alvillar
2nd Year
While finishing 4-6 in 2005, Alvillar’s squad fought through an array of difficult opponents to give the Seahawk fans a glimpse of what is quickly molding into an exciting brand of football on both sides of the ball.
Coach Alvillar had spent the previous five seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Seahawks, which had produced a Conference Player of the Year, a number two ranked rush defense in the nation and a US Bank Bowl Championship.
At L.A. Harbor, Alvillar replaced his college coach, Steve Schmitz, who retired after a successful career that included five years with the Seahawks.
“I have been dreaming of this opportunity since the first time I picked up a whistle. I am extremely honored and proud to be leading the charge of the Seahawk family. I believe this place is going to be a diamond among the junior colleges in the area. With the way the college is changing and the improvements being made to the college are going to insert new life into this community. This is a great opportunity and the advantages we will have because of the community support will help to drive this football program to the top.”
Coach Alvillar was born to coach. It is in his blood. His father “Doc” Alvillar was a long time coach and his brother Marco is the Seahawk’s Head Baseball Coach. He will continue to coach with the pride and intensity that is a signature of his family. Alvillar’s first coaching position was at El Camino College in 1998, he was in charge of the defensive backs. As an assistant he participated in two bowl games with the program.
Alvillar is a native of Southern California. He graduated from North Torrance High School in 1990. He was voted the Saxon’s MVP. He played two years at El Camino College where he was a team captain, earning All-State and All-Conference honors. His playing days continued at Sonoma State University. Just as important as his athletic achievements, Alvillar graduated from SSU with a Bachelor’s degree and earned a Master’s degree from Azusa Pacific University.
Coach Alvillar has been married to his wife Elizabeth for two years. It is her love and support that allows Andrew the time and effort needed to run a successful program. Look for her, his family, and his many nieces and nephews cheering for the Seahawks this season. Coach Alvillar is confident the 2006 L.A. Harbor Seahawks will give everyone plenty to cheer for.
