Geography 1 - Physical Geography - 3 units
  UC:CSU  (CAN GEOG 2)

Prerequisites: none
Lecture 3 hours per week
Description: An exploration of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and lithosphere.  Major  topics are earth-sun relations, mapping and satellite imagery, weather and climate patterns, ecology, soils, plate tectonics, landform development, and human impacts on the environment.  This is a foundation course for students interested in the earth sciences and environmental studies, as well as a major in geography.

For MW sections of Physical Geography and the Lab (Geography 15), each semester  there are 2-3 field trip options on Saturday morning(s) and/or Sunday afternoon(s), and Geography 1 and 15 students are only required to go on one trip, with more for extra credit.  They are fun! If you have a physical disability, you may complete the Geography 1 field trip requirement at the L.A. County Natural History Museum, by consulting the professor first about what specific things to study there.  Although most students like the outdoor ones the best, some die-hard "field trip lovers," who went on 5-8 trips, reported that this museum trip was their favorite.
