Counseling

TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT CALL INFORMATION DESK AT 310-233-4230!

The Counseling staff helps students define their objectives and plan how to reach them. Counselors are on duty throughout the year to help continuing students and new applicants in planning their college program of study. When possible, new students should request counseling prior to registration. Counselors can help with program planning, vocational and career information, and personal issues affecting college success. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact the Information Desk at 310-233-4230.

We try to staff the Information Desk with Counselors most hours of the day and evening. We call this Drop In counseling. You may drop in and see a counselor if you have quick questions. We want you to continue to progress, and so we try to be available for you. If you want to use a class from another college to meet a prerequisite here at Harbor, please bring a copy of your transcript to a drop in counselor. It helps if you also bring the college catalog, with your transcript, so that we can more easily determine the course level from that college.

Every student is encouraged to meet with a counselor for an appointment before their second semester at Harbor College. Students and Counselors develop Educational Plans which outline the required classes needed to achieve ones goals. Whether your plans are to enter the workforce after college, or to transfer to a university, see a counselor to plan your classes and discuss options. Counselors also teach a college success course called Personal Development 17. All college athletes are required to develop an educational plan during a counseling appointment.
